EJOLT workshop in Italy (Nov 2013)

Form the 9th to the 15th of November 2013, the Environmental Justice Organisations, Liabilities and Trade (EJOLT) project held its annual meeting in Rome, Italy. An international delegation of activists, academics, researchers and journalists participated to a "biocide" tour visiting areas known for their high levels of environmental contamination and severe impacts on health: Malagrotta in the Roman suburb, the largest urban waste dumpsite in Europe; the Sacco Valley in the Lazio region, where incinerators and cement factories caused water contamination, environmental and health issues; and the "Terra dei Fuochi" in the Naples area infamous for the waste-related contamination disaster where communities are protesting against the construction of a new incinerator to burn "ecoballs". Pablo Fajardo, the lead lawyer in Chevron-Texaco lawsuit also participated at the events and updated attendants on the latest decision of the Ecuadorian Supreme Court.
