Erlindo “Lino” Baez is a land rights activist, who led peasants and fisherfolk against landgrabbing and ecotourism projects in Hacienda Looc in Nasugbu, Batangas, the Philippines, which affected thousands of poor communities. Manila South Coast Development Corporation (MSDC) and Fil Estate Properties (FEMI) are the developers of the Golf Park Project Harbortown in Hacienda Looc. Baez was also a former human rights worker of the human rights group Karapatan in the province. He was arrested with Willy Capareño and reportedly tortured on October 6, 2021 by around 50 elements of the Philippine National Police and the Provincial Intelligence Unit, under charges of alleged firearm possession. He had previously received threats and members of his family have been targeted.
