In June 2023, two trade union leaders - Thidar Win and Hlaing Win Htet - at Sun Apparel garment factory, supplier of JAKO Sports Clothing in Yangon’s Hlaing Tharyar Township in Myanmar, were arrested after they demanded a pay increase and better working conditions. Since their arrest they have been held by the military. As a result of the strike JAKO confirmed that the daily wage was increased to 5,600 MMK and the attendance bonuses to 20,000 MMK. Furthermore, JAKO emphasized that they will try to get the two labour union activists released as soon as possible.
