Chinese and South Korean–owned battery manufacturers operating in Hungary have come under criticism for repeated environmental and occupational safety violations. Allegations include the uncontrolled release of hazardous substances, failure to comply with emissions limits, and unsafe working conditions affecting hundreds of employees. Despite regulatory action—such as partial suspensions and fines—factories continue to expand, raising concerns over insufficient oversight, public health risks, and the environmental costs of Europe’s battery supply chain.
