Ivanhoe Mines' response
Response to concerns raised in the July 2025 Oakland Institute report Your electronic mail dated January 25, 2026, outlining the concerns raised in the July 2025 report published by Oakland Institute refers.
We are writing in response to the statement alleging misconduct by Ivanhoe Mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The paragraph in question presents a selective and misleading account of our operations, omitting critical context, verified facts, and publicly available disclosures. Ivanhoe Mines rejects any characterization of its conduct as “appalling” and maintains that it operates in accordance with the highest international standards, host-country law, and its publicly stated commitments to responsible mining, human rights, and sustainable development. In addition, the Company aligns its operations with global frameworks, such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standards and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) 10 Principles. With respect to community resettlement associated with the Kamoa-Kakula Project, Ivanhoe Mines implemented a comprehensive, consultative, and compensated resettlement programme aligned with international best practice, including ongoing engagement and grievance mechanisms. Our disclosures on this matter are set out in our annual sustainability reports accessible on our website. Regarding allegations related to COVID-19 restrictions, the Company implemented health and safety protocols in line with government regulations and public health guidance, prioritising employee welfare and continuity of critical mine development. These measures, and our support to employees during this period, were commensurate with the level of risk to our workforce. We have previously responded to these allegations.
Furthermore, allegations of bribery and improper conduct in 2022 are both blatantly inaccurate and misleading and we have publicly responded to these claims in the past. Ivanhoe Mines maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and operates under rigorous compliance, governance, and audit frameworks. The Company has consistently cooperated with all regulatory authorities, and no findings or charges have ever been brought against us. It is inappropriate and irresponsible to imply wrongdoing in the absence of substantiated findings. We are committed to ongoing human rights due diligence (HRDD) and have been working closely with an independent global human rights specialist consultancy to periodically undertake HRDDs, as well as develop and oversee progress against human rights action plans. Moreover, we are also independently assessed through environmental and social specialists on behalf of multiple international lenders. Ivanhoe Mines remains committed to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. We encourage all stakeholders to rely on verified information and our comprehensive public disclosures, rather than unsubstantiated or selectively presented claims. We respectfully request that future commentary reflect these facts and the Company’s demonstrated commitment to responsible mining and community partnership. We trust that this adequately addresses these queries and invite you to contact us should any further information or clarity be required.
