NGO demands national guidelines on sand mining

NGO Awaaz Foundation has demanded a speedy investigation into the murder of IAS officer DK Ravi...We demand an investigation into the violent sand mafias which apparently have many parts of our country in their grip..Abdulali said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has an ambitious growth plan for 100 smart cities which would require huge quantities of construction material, but India simply does not have this quantity of sand available. "The Indian Government, while formulating its ambitious GDP growth strategy, has not addressed this one vital component at any stage or conducted any study on its availability or the cost to the environment in its extraction, or commissioned any study to discover alternatives including recycling of construction debris and industrial waste,'' she said.
