Petrus Kinggo is an indigenous leader and land rights defender in Boven Digoel district in Papua, Indonesia. Kinggo has been campaigning for a palm oil firm to return land grabbed from his people since 2018. Kinggo is up against PT. Tunas Sawa Erma POP A, a subsidiary of the Korindo Group, a joint Indonesian and Korean palm oil plantation, which he accuses of grabbing people’s land and damaging the environment in southern Papua. On June 21, 2020, four people who work and live in the area of the oil palm plantation company Sawa Erma, came to Kinggo's village. Two of them went into his house and asked about his whereabouts, reportedly in a harsh and aggressive tone. The men also entered several other residents' homes, asking about Petrus Kinggo's whereabouts and threatening the residents. They were carrying bows, arrows and machetes. The incident left the residents of Kali Kao, Petrus Kinggo and his family, feeling worried and unsafe. Kinggo reported the incident to the Police Station. This is not the first time he experiences threats, supposedly for his land rights campaigns.

In 2019, Petrus Kinggo received threats and intimidations linked to his work.
