Quintin Salgado was a worker at the Canadian Company Torex Gold and a union leader in Nuevo Balsas, Mexico. The union he belonged to was fighting for a new collective contract. On January 24th 2018, Quintin Salgado was shot and killed by unknown criminals in the province of Nuevo Balsas. Torex Gold's response regarding the incident can be found below. He was the third worker striking against Torex Gold Resources in Mexico to be killed in a row. Salgado's death was the latest violent act allegedly related to the strike at the Media Luna mine, where approximately 600 workers went on strike since November 3, 2017, after they were prevented from leaving the Confederación de Trabajadores de México (CTM) union to join Los Mineros.
