On 18 February 2023, the collective "Sitilpech Hope" (La Esperanza de Sitilpech), which set up a camp at the entrance of the mega pig farm owned by the company Keken, 3 km from the indigenous Maya community of Sitilpech, was violently dispersed by the police.

On 22 February 2023, the community of Sitilpech organised a press conference presenting the “Sitilpech Declaration on a Town Free of Mega Pig Farms”, in which they set out ways to engage in dialogue if conditions for this were in place. On 1 March 2023, the villagers of Sitilpech rejected an invitation from the company to talk that they received through the organisation Kanan Human Rights because the company had not fulfilled its promise to remove the pigs. On 3 March, the police arrived again with approximately 70 officers escorting the company’s trucks, burned the surrounding hills and forcibly removed the Sitilpech villagers’ camp.
