Hearing on Russia using U.S. tech in war

10 September 2024

Executives from four U.S. technology companies testified before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations in regard to their products being used in Russian weaponry in the war against Ukraine. They were pressed on details of how their technology chips were diverted to Russia, such as their responsibility in conducting export-control audits and monitoring illicit sales of their products. According to the subcommittee’s chair, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a majority of Russian weaponry recovered from the battlefield was made with U.S.-made components. He said, “I am ashamed and embarrassed to go to Ukraine and meet with President Zelensky ... and personally see the weapons of war.”
