In June 2021, bp signed an agreement with the Azerbaijan Ministry of Energy to develop a 240MW solar power plant in the Jabrayil district of the Nagorno-Karabakh area. This was followed by agreement on implementation steps in June 2022.

In recent months, news outlets reported gradual sealing off of the Lachin corridor. In August 2023, UN experts urged Azerbaijan to lift Lachin corridor blockade and end humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In view of bp’s presence in the Nagorno-Karabakh area, recent conflict activity and deteriorating humanitarian situation, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre reached out to bp with questions regarding its human rights due diligence related to its activities in the area. bp responded.

Our letter with questions and bp’s response can be found below.
