The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), the National Committee to Combat Climate Change (CNLCC), and the Institute of Lawyers for Environmental Protection (INSAPROMA) launched a report alleging that "the Punta Catalina thermoelectric plant seriously violates the rights of children in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and Jamaica," citing "evidence of environmental contamination and corruption," and demanding the immediate closure of the plant.

The organisations presented the report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and concluded that "the Dominican Republic has failed in its duty to respect and protect children’s rights".

We invited Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Punta Catalina to comment on the allegations, but the company did not respond.
