...JRPM submitted its Open Letter… to the… Provincial Government… demanding accountability and transparency on the controversial JRMP II [project]... The letter highlighted urgent issues... including Daewoo E&C’s sudden pullout as contractor, the project’s ballooning costs from Php 11.2 billion to over Php 20 billion, and the questionable Php 7.088 billion in unprogrammed funds. JRPM also reiterated its call for justice for the displaced Tumandok communities and the victims of the 2020 Tumandok Massacre, as well as serious attention to downstream flooding and earthquake risks once the mega dam becomes fully operational. ...JRPM urged the Iloilo Provincial Government to: Demand transparency from NIA, DBM, and Malacañang regarding the ballooning funds and contractor changes; Call for an independent review of JRMP II’s budget, contracts, and safety risks; Uphold people’s rights, protect the environment, and prioritize long-term public safety… The billions poured into JRMP II are people’s money, and the risks are borne by the people of Iloilo. We expect the provincial leadership to act decisively before it is too late,” the group concluded.
