According to a report published by Kampas TV, on 26 June 2023, a workplace accident at PT Gunbuster Nickel Industri (PT GNI) in North Morowali killed one local worker and injured two Chinese workers, hospitalising several others. The Deputy Chairman of the local People's Representative Council (DPRD) criticised PT GNI for repeated safety failures and accused the government of lacking the courage to hold the Chinese-owned company accountable as it is part of the National Strategic Project.

The Business and Human Rights Centre reached out to Jiangsu Delong Nickel Industry for comments. They did not respond.
