Myanmar: Workers reportedly robbed & killed returning home from overtime shifts; incl. co. responses
In August 2024, it was reported that workers at Dong Long (Pathein) Garment are facing a series of violations, including workers forced to work overtime without their consent incl. on Sundays, wage cuts and verbal abuse if you refuse to work overtime, no transport provided for workers working late night shifts after 6pm with workers reporting that there have been instances of workers being robbed or killed on their way home after working until 9pm but the factory is covering up these cases. Workers also report verbal and physical abuse incl. workers having clothes thrown at them, wage deductions if targets are not met, and workers being denied breaks or having their phone confiscated if targets are not met.
In December 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited MUJI, Semir International and LIDL to respond. MUJI and LIDL responded. Semir International did not.
