Any attempt to respond in detail to this confusing and confused discussion would take more time and effort than I can devote to it...However, so as to leave no doubt in anyone’s mind about where I stand, let me correct the foundational flaw this paper starts out with and from which all its other troubles flow. Its core premise is that I am an adherent to, or support a vision of, market fundamentalism...Here’s my response: if someone is unable to differentiate between market fundamentalism and the approach to political economy that I have taken in my academic and policy work for the past forty years then, at minimum, they need new and sharper analytical tools.
