The leaders of the Peruvian communities affected by the Las Bambas mine will arrive in Lima on Monday to begin a dialogue and reach a solution to the conflict that has arisen around the mine, according to information provided by Foreign Trade Minister Roberto Sánchez, confirmed by Prime Minister Aníbal Torres... Foreign Trade Minister Roberto Sánchez denied that the dialogue between the government and the communities that remain on the grounds of the Las Bambas copper mine in Apurímac has broken down: "Here no one has kicked the board, the proposal has been clear and the premier, moreover, has made it official at the request of the villagers yesterday in a document that is already in the public domain," he said.... The last few weeks have been tensed in the community, after members of the Fuerabamba community in the Chalhuahuacho district entered the Las Bambas mine on 14 April to protest against the non-fulfilment of their commitments to social investment, while some members of the Huancuire community also joined the protest... According to the Las Bambas mine's legal affairs manager, Claudio Cáceres, the stoppage of operations at the mine has caused the Apurímac region to stop receiving the equivalent of more than 26 million dollars in the 35 days of stoppage...
