Response of AES to Cultural Survival statement “Crisis in Panama”

The event referenced by Cultural Survival occurred in the San San Durui Region...located approx more than 40 Km from the Changuinola site. The protest was related to the Naso indigenous and to the Bonyic hydro project, which is not operated or affiliated in any way with AES. As general background, AES is committed to safely providing affordable and sustainable energy throughout the communities we serve. We fully respect human rights in the development and operation of projects. In the case of the Changuinola hydropower project, we worked with an organization to ensure that the relocation program involved participation of all stakeholders and was in compliance with the World Bank’s Operational Policy on Involuntary Resettlement.
