“Daewoo Construction Another worker 'death accident' occurs in 5 days”, 9 September 2025

Another fatality has occurred at a Daewoo Construction apartment construction site due to a safety accident. This comes five days after a worker died from suspected heat-related illness.

According to the construction industry on the 9th, an accident occurred that afternoon at the construction site of the Prugio Ocean Apartment in Geobuk Island, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, which was being built by Daewoo Construction, in which a subcontractor worker, Mr. A, in his 50s, died from a head impact.

The accident reportedly occurred on the 26th floor, the rooftop, when Mr. B, a large crane operator, collided with Mr. A while moving a steel staircase with a crane. Mr. A died at the scene, and police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, questioning witnesses. The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to investigate whether the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accident Punishment Act were violated.

This marks the second fatal accident in five days at a Daewoo Construction construction site. On the 4th of this month, a worker collapsed and died while cleaning the deck plate section of Tank 3 at the Ulsan North Port Terminal, a construction site under construction by Daewoo Construction. At the time, his body temperature reportedly reached 43°C and he was unconscious.

A Daewoo Construction official said, "We pray for the repose of the souls of the workers and offer our sincere apologies to their bereaved families." The official added, "As soon as the accident occurred, President Kim Bo-hyun personally responded to the scene and plans to actively support the bereaved families and assist with the investigation by relevant authorities."

Beginning with the Hyundai Engineering incident earlier this year, followed by accidents at POSCO E&C and DL Construction last month, numerous safety accidents have been reported recently. Fatal accidents also occurred at a GS Construction construction site in Seongdong-gu, Seoul on the 3rd and a Lotte Construction apartment construction site on the 6th.
