On April 20 in Kryvyi Rih two unknown men attacked the technical inspector of the primary trade union of the Free Trade Union of Railway workers of Ukraine at the Municipal Enterprise "City Trolleybus" Ms. Svitlana Savchuk. Svetlana Savchuk was being beaten until her husband, who is also a trade union leader, Viktor Savchuk came. He chased the attackers, but could not catch them. He remembered the license number of her getaway car. Viktor Savchuk gave his wife first aid and called for the ambulance and the police. Doctors stated that Svetlana Savchuk had numerous sores, bruises, and scratches on the face, as well as signs of the concussion. The police compiled the protocol and subsequently opened the criminal proceedings. The representatives of the VPZU noted that the attack on Svitlana Savchuk happened after she had attended the meeting of workers of the depot № 1 of the station "Rokuvata" of the Municipal Enterprise "City Trolleybus". During this meeting Svetlana was consulting the trade unionists and workers on the trade union mechanisms, that can be used for protecting employees during the possible dissolving of this depot. Free Trade Union of Railway workers of Ukraine at the Municipal Enterprise "City Trolleybus" also recently initiated the protest against the inadequate technical condition of trolleybuses on 6 February. The independent trade unionists demanded an investigation of the corrupt activities of the management of this municipal company, to ensure workplace safety and respect of labor rights at the enterprise. The Confederation of Free Trade Union of Ukraine says it is following the investigation of this incident closely.
