Two company executives of a private contracting firm have been jailed for causing the death of three workers in a manhole tragedy last year...

The workers suffocated to death in a sewage tunnel on Budaiya Highway in November 16 last year...

The GDN reported that Debasis Sahoo, 30, Rakesh Kumar Yadav, 31 and Mohammed Tousif Khan, 32, died inside the manhole.

A fourth worker, Jag Mohan, was rescued...

the Public Prosecution said in a statement yesterday.

“They failed to provide equipment for safety and security at the site of the accident.

“They also failed to verify the workers’ awareness of the risks on job, and if they were capable of handling it.

“They allowed work at the site of the accident without notifying the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, which ensures that safety requirements are met.

“This led to the accident and the death and injury of the workers..."
