64 Indians from UP, Bihar and Delhi were duped by a group of recruitment agents. The men arrived in the UAE on a visit visa arranged by the agents after paying Rs 1.5 lakh (Dh7, 500) each. They were trapped in a single room in Sharjah before they were rescued. Workers said that the agents sent a driver to collect them from the airport. However, they had to wait 14 hours for the driver. As soon as they got into the van, their passports were held. When they asked for their passports back, they were brutally beaten and threatened with deportation.

The Indian consulate was informed about the plight of these men. It managed to contact the agents who brought them to the UAE and demanded their passports. Later, the consulate arranged for flight tickets and Covid testes for those who wish to fly back home.

Media reported that Of the 64 men, 46 have secured jobs after 20 companies offered support to them, while the rest have been repatriated to their home country.
