Ukraine: Fire at construction camp in occupied Crimea kills 8, injures 2 highway construction workers

8 people died at the construction site of the Tavrida highway in Crimea, 02 February 2023

A fire broke out in one of the cabins in a house used by workers employed for the construction of the Tavrida highway in the vicinity of the annexed Sevastopol on the night of February 2. Eight people were killed and two others were injured. This was announced by the head of the city appointed by Russia, Mikhail Razvozhaev.

The fire occurred in a two-story residential building on Neftyanaya Street, the Ministry of Emergency of Russia reported. The area of the fire was about 200 square meters. Rescuers extinguished the fire by morning and began clearing the rubble.

The cause of the fire has not been reported. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article on causing death by negligence to two or more persons. According to preliminary data, more than 100 workers lived in the building. They came to Crimea from different regions of Russia.
