Police said the authorities of a garment factory in Mymensingh's Bhaluka, where worker Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob on Thursday night over allegations of "hurting religious sentiments," informed them later about the incident. ..superintendent of Industrial Police in Mymensingh, said he was informed about the incident by one of his assistant sub-inspectors around 8:00 pm that night. .."Immediately, we started running towards the spot, but it was too late. Hundreds of people were on the road, and it was very difficult to reach the place through the huge crowd. When we reached the factory gate, we saw the body being carried by a furious mob towards the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, about two kilometres away. A 10-kilometre traffic jam was created for nearly three hours, seriously obstructing the movement of law enforcement agencies," said the SP. He added that his office is located 15 kilometres away, while Bhaluka Police Station is comparatively closer. "Just a timely call could have saved Dipu's life, but it was not made," the SP remarked. The SP further alleged that although police have been maintaining contact with the factory, no officials have reached out to them yet. ..Sakib Mahmud, senior manager (admin) of Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Ltd at Jamirdia in Bhaluka, said a group of workers started protesting inside the factory around 5:00 pm, accusing Dipu of "hurting religious sentiments". On information, the factory officials rushed to the spot to calm the situation where hundreds of workers inside the factory had been protesting. There was no proof of the allegations, but the agitating workers continued their protest. At one stage, Alamgir Hossain, manager of the factory arranged a "fake resignation" from Dipu around 7:30pm to tackle the situation but the agitating workers did not bother. At one stage, Dipu was kept at the factory's security room and police were informed around 8:00 pm. Asked why they were so late to inform police, the senior manager said they tried their best to tackle the situation inside the factory.
