Coca-Cola Co releases 1st stand-alone Human Rights Report, aligned with UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework

"The Coca-Cola Company's Human Rights Report 2016-2017"

...The Coca-Cola Company [has released their] first stand-alone Human Rights Report, aligned with the United Nations (UN) Guiding Principles Reporting Framework, and sharing how [they] identified [their] salient human rights risks and what [they] are doing to address them. The report, which complements [their] 2016-2017 Sustainability Report, also communicates [their] human rights work during the reporting time frame.

The Coca-Cola Company’s Human Rights Policy...covers the following topics: respect for human rights, community and stakeholder engagement, valuing diversity, freedom of association and collective, bargaining, safe and healthy workplace, workplace security, forced labor and human trafficking, child labor, work hours, wages and benefits, guidance and reporting for employees...

[Some] key achievements in 2016 and 2017 include:

  • Publication of child labor, forced labor and land rights risks in [their] sugar supply chain in five additional countries [Brazil, Cameroon, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, and Gabon]...
  • Revision of [their] human rights policy, based on internal and external global input...
  • Achieving a 21 percent reduction in serious incidents and injuries.
  • Sourcing more than 1 million tons of more sustainable sugar in 2016...

[The report also identifies areas where more work is needed, such as improved access to remedy for workers in their supply chain, further protection of human rights defenders, more accuracy in their data gathering, and further integration of the UN Guiding Principles into their supply chain.]
