Finland: Paperworkers' unions reach collective labour agreement following months of strikes over working conditions

In the beginning of 2022, over 2000 members of the the Paperworkers’ Union went on strike for higher wages and better working conditions at UPM mills in Finland. The strike covered UPM Pulp, UPM Communication Papers, UPM Specialty Papers, UPM Raflatac and UPM Biofuels units and brought the company to a standstill at all sites in Finland. In April 2022, after nearly four months of strike the Union and UPM agreed on collective labour agreements for the five UPM businesses. In addition to an increase in wages in line with the current industry norm, it was also agreed, among other things, that the periodical pay is to be substituted with hourly pay.
