Netherlands: 40 climate activists arrested for protesting KLM's frequent flyer program; incl. company non-response

On 8 March 2025, about 40 climate activists from Extinction Rebellion were arrested at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after protesting against KLM’s Flying Blue frequent flyer program, which they argue incentivises excessive flying and contributes to the climate crisis. The demonstration, initially permitted at Jan Dellaertplein, escalated when activists moved into Terminal 2 and KLM lounges—areas where protests are prohibited—prompting the Royal Military Police to intervene and detain the activists.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited KLM to respond to allegations; it did not.
