The Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, MG, and Secretary General of the Commission for Integral Ecology and Mining of the CNBB was threatened with death by an armed man in Moeda, in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizont, after the celebration of a Confirmation Mass. The threat is due to the work of Bishop Vicente Ferreira in denouncing the alleged injustices and violence that the mining company Vale and others have been perpetrating in Brumadinho, in the basins of the rivers Paraopeba and Doce, in Minas Gerais and in several other states of Brazil. Since he began acting in defence of those affected by the breach of the Vale dam in Brumadinho in 2019, the threats against him have intensified.
