On 22 May 2024, journalist Angela Nittoli Corriere della Sera,  photographer Massimo Barsoum, and freelance video maker Roberto Di Matteo were detained on their way to cover a demonstration in Rome, Italy, organized by Ultima Generazione (Last Generation), a group of climate change activists. They were stopped by the police after they met with the protest organizers at a café before heading to the protest site. The police officers demanded identification, including press cards, and were detained in a police station. The reporters said they were not allowed to use their cellphones during the detention, so they could not let their newspapers know they would not perform their assigned job.
