‘Cívicos en emergencia por la explotación del litio del salar’, 15 January 2025

...Leaders of one of the two civic committees of the city of Potosí announced that at a consultative council meeting they had decided to declare a state of emergency in defence of the Salar de Uyuni and questioning the lithium exploitation contracts that the government wants to have approved by the Plurinational Legislative Assembly.

In contact with the local press, the leaders of this civic organisation, led by Alberto Pérez, pointed out that the contracts with the Russian Uranium One Group, Joint-Stock Company Sucursal Bolivia and the Chinese consortium Hong Kong CBC Investment Limited Sucursal Bolivia do not benefit the people of Potosí, which is why they are calling for them not to be approved by the deputies and senators.

They announce that next Thursday a protest march will take place in defence of the natural resources of Potosí and for the preservation of the Cerro Rico de Potosí...
