European Tech Alliance (EUTA) responded
The Business and Human Rights Centre invited EUTA to respond to the publication "Addicted to the algorithm: How Big Tech lobbies to keep us hooked on social media" by Corporate Europe Observatory. EUTA responded.
“Trust in products and services, whether offline or online, starts with robust consumer protection. European tech businesses have already invested heavily in compliance, often going beyond legal requirements at both EU and national levels.”
“The focus to empower consumers should be on ensuring that the existing framework works effectively. We have a robust framework including the UCPD, UTCCD, CRD, GDPR, e-Privacy Directive, DSA, DMA, AVMSD, and the Accessibility Act. The legal tools to address the concerns raised by the ongoing digital fairness discussion already exist. To deliver fairness, the rules must be applied consistently by all businesses operating in Europe.”
“What is needed is clearer Commission guidance on how rules interact, stronger alignment among national regulators, a more coherent Single Market approach to enforcement, and constructive dialogue between authorities and businesses.”
