Israel/OPT: Reebok called on to withdraw contract with Israel Football Association, or face international boycott campaign

"Israel football association loses yet another sponsor", 17 February 2025

[...]

In August 2024, Erreà signed a two-year sponsorship contract with the IFA. On January 1, 2025, Erreà was set to replace German multinational PUMA, which had leaked news in December 2023 that it would not be renewing its contract with the IFA following a 5-year global boycott campaign. In 2018, Adidas did not renew its contract with the IFA, following a campaign led by Palestinian sports teams and the delivery of 16,000 signatures to Adidas headquarters...

Israel’s Gaza genocide has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, including at least 715 Palestinian athletes and footballers and destroyed or damaged all Palestinian sports facilities in Gaza, including stadiums, gyms and club facilities, some of which were used as detention and torture camps.

The IFA is directly complicit in Israel’s decades-long apartheid regime and military occupation, and more recently, its Gaza genocide. The IFA includes in its official leagues teams based in illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land and advocates, together with the Israeli government, to maintain them.

Under pressure from the growing calls to boycott, Erreà wanted out of the contract. More than 1.5 months into the contract, the company still had not supplied any jerseys to the IFA....

Israeli media reports that the IFA has signed a two-year deal with Reebok and its logo now appears on the IFA’s website as the new sponsor.

In January 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel is plausibly committing genocide in Gaza. In July, the ICJ further ruled that Israel’s military occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is illegal. Both rulings from the World Court carry with them obligations not to contribute in any way to the atrocity crimes Israel is committing.

We call on Reebok to immediately withdraw from its contract with the IFA in order to avoid being complicit in Israel’s war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. Should Reebok go forward with this criminal and unethical sponsorship, it will face an international boycott campaign just as Erreà, PUMA and Adidas before them.
