The Mukwano Group of Companies has denied...it abandoned one of its ex-workers after he suffered an accident while on duty. The case of Mr Kassim Suuna was covered in the media widely...after he was reportedly assaulted by police officers outside the company’s offices in Kampala. He had reportedly pitched camp at the facility to demand compensation when he was manhandled. But in a statement...signed by the company chief executive, Mr Tony Gadhoke, the employee was involved in an accident in December 2012 and he received full treatment at the company’s cost. The company...then reported the matter to its insurers to commence a process of compensation...[and Mr. Suuna was compensated] as dictated by the law...The company said he then lost his job on disciplinary grounds but has since been camping outside its premises claiming more compensation. About the arrest, the company said they were compelled to call the police after Mr. Suuna became erratic.
