Myanmar: Potential reopening of coup‑halted dam projects raises concerns over displacement, water access and inadequate impact assessments; incl. companies non-responses
Chinese and Thai investors, including HydroChina, China Three Gorges, Sinohydro and EGAT International, were contracted to finance and develop dams along the Salween River, such as the Kunlong, Nao Pha, Mantong and Mongton dams. Halted since the military coup, companies are still seeking resumpion of dam construction, according to report. Stalled or flawed EIAs and inadequate safeguards have reportedly left tens of thousands displaced without proper redress, raising calls for corporate accountability before any project revival.
Business and Human Rights Resource Centre had sought response from Power China, Sinohydro and China Three Gorges Corporation. They have not responded.
