Panasonic response to allegations of labour rights abuse of Bangladeshi workers at Malaysian supplier

...Firstly, Panasonic Group is committed to respect internationally recognized human rights as explained in the Panasonic Group Human Rights and Labour Policy and taking measures to understand existing and potential human rights risks in our supply chain.

We require that suppliers affirm the Panasonic Group Code of Ethics & Compliance ... at the start of transactions for materials and components for the manufacturing of Panasonic products, make it mandatory to suppliers to commit to the Panasonic Supply Chain CSR Promotion Guideline.

We also require all new suppliers to conduct CSR Self-Assessment before we start transactions as well as our existing suppliers to do assessment regularly and use that information, together with other sources, to identify potential and existing human rights risks. Once risks are identified, we visit suppliers, check on-site conditions, hold interviews, investigate if necessary and work to remediate them.

We have an existing business relationship with Kawaguchi Manufacturing. We are investigating this issue and will continue to do so in more detail. Based on this, we will consider taking necessary measures in alignment with relevant authorities in Malaysia and other stakeholders, including requesting Kawaguchi Manufacturing to take corrective actions safeguarding the interests of the impacted workers...
