Around a hundred farmers from the Kambove territory in Haut-Katanga accuse the Chinese mining company Kambove (COMIKA) of polluting their fields with mining waste and then demand compensation.

These farmers claim that their crops were destroyed after their contact with toxic substances contained in polluted waters from the factories of this Chinese company. According to the Congolese rural environmental civil society organisation Aaro (SOCARICO), COMIKA is accused of polluting the air and waters of the Kisanga River for several months.

Contacted by the Resource Centre, the companies Wanboa Mining and Gécamines did not comment on the allegations.
