Russia: Locals complain about emissions from Bogoslovky Aluminium Smelter

申立

[Summary translation prepared by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre]

In Achinsk, criminal case initiated over "black snow." Since January, residents have been complaining about dirty dust and chemical smell, 28 March 2024

Emissions are also being recorded at another of Deripaska's facilities — the Bogoslovsky Aluminum Smelter (BAZ) in Krasnoturyinsk, Sverdlovsk Region. The plant is located in the city center, just 700 meters from a residential area. Due to the emissions, local residents are forced to wash a thick white residue—of unknown chemical composition—off their cars.

According to the plant’s press service, the substance is supposedly “natural river salt,” but residents say it cannot be cleaned off, even with alkaline shampoo.
