Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Wal-Mart to respond to the following items:
“Walmart Supplier Supports Torture, False Imprisonment of Labor Activists”, Amanda Kloer, Change.org, 10 May 2011
“Walmart: Stand Up Against Torture of Labor Leaders”, International Labor Rights Forum
Letter from Judy Gearhart, ILRF, and Bjorn Claeson, SweatFree Communities, to Rajan Kamalanathan, Wal-Mart [PDF], 28 Apr 2011
“Bangladesh: End Legal Harassment of Labor Leaders”, Human Rights Watch, 3 May 2011
Wal-Mart responded [DOC].
The suppliers named are Envoy Group and Nassa Group. Envoy Group has said it did not lodge complaints; Nassa Group has said it has dropped the charges. Intl. Labor Rights Forum contests those statements. We have attempted to contact Envoy Group and Nassa Group, but have been unable to reach them. If we receive responses from them, we will include them here.
