'Family awarded Dhs400,000 after construction worker death', 17 Jul 2016
The family of a construction worker who died after concrete fell on him at work has been awarded Dhs400,000 [$108,900] in compensation. Abu Dhabi Cassation Court upheld earlier rulings which ordered the construction firm and their insurance company to pay Dhs200,000 in blood money and another Dhs200,000 in damages to the family of the Asian man for causing his death...the worker was on duty at a newly constructed building in the capital when concrete blocks collapsed from the top floors of the structure and fell on him...Investigations suggested that the company didn’t comply with safety requirements which caused the collapse of part of the concrete from the outer part of building...besides his parents, the worker left behind a wife and four children and he was their sole bread winner.
