Australia: FedEx workers vote to strike over job insecurity & pay

"FedEx strike could see thousands of parcels delayed across Australia", 20 Australia 2021

... Transport Workers Union (TWU) National Secretary Michael Kaine said 97 per cent of workers at FedEx voted to take industrial action amid ongoing pressure and a lack of job security.

Mr Kaine said delivery companies need to "stop the race to the bottom", pushing workers to compete with companies...where drivers have "next to no workplace rights".

"That means commitments to reasonable job security provisions like caps on the use of outside contracts, commitments to allocate work to existing employees before contracting, and same job same pay conditions for labour hire as employees," he told Sky News Australia...

The move comes after...StarTrack voted to take strike action for 24-hours on Thursday...

A FedEx spokesperson said they're "disappointed" the Transport Workers' Union have "chosen to taken this step" as they continue to negotiate with them to achieve a fair agreement.

"...Industrial action at such times, is not only disruptive to our business, but more importantly to our team members, customers and communities.

"Should the industrial action occur, we have comprehensive contingency plans in place to minimise any disruptions to customers. Customers can find the latest updates on our website or contact customer service regarding their shipments.

"We hope to work together with the TWU to finalise an enterprise agreement that balances the interests of both team members and the company."
