Honduras: Human rights defenders in land struggle against AZUNOSA arbitrarily detained; incl. company response

On 4 December 2023, land rights defender, Jensy Manzanares from the farmers' association Agua Blanca Sur, which is affiliated with the National Center of Rural Workers (CNTC) in Honduras, was detained and accused of the crime of intrusion (usurpación).

On 15 November 2023, another member of Agua Blanca Sur, Maribel Díaz García, was detained. The next day, the national police and security guards from the sugar company AZUNOSA displaced 60 families from the region.

On 30 September 2023, two members of the National Center of Rural Workers (CNTC) leaders, Cándido Santamaría and Marvin Ávila were accused of the crimes of aggravated usurpation and aggravated damages against AZUNOSA.
