"Victim of Modern Slavery at Yi Cai Garment Factory in Yangon, Myanmar ", 25 August 2022

[...]

At Yi Cai Garment Factory, [a[ super[visor] and interpreter Yin Moe Tun clashed yesterday, August 23, 2022. After this clash, on this morning, August 24, 2022, the interpreter brought her husband and brother to the factory and ordered them to beat Maung Lin Naing, who is [the] super[visor] from Line 5. Maung Lin Naing was then held from behind by the interpreter and her brother, who pounded his back. The interpreter's husband also punched the face of Muang Lin Naing and stabbed the body with a sharp object. Maung Lin Naing suffered cuts and bruises after being punched and stabbed with a sharp object. However, the factory did not resolve the issue, and Maung Lin Naing was fired from his job. Because of the dismissal of Maung Lin Naing, the line workers requested that he not be fired, but that he would be rehired and they were asked to sign a pledge that if there was another fight, the whole line would have to quit. The injured worker asked for permission (Gate Pass) to go out of the factory to complain to the authority, but it was not given, saying that there was not enough paper, and it was delayed. Therefore, the worker was only allowed to leave the factory after signing the resignation letter...

There was previously a dispute between the factory workers and another all-super who swore at the linemen. This is the second time an outsider has physically assaulted an employee inside the factory.

The factory produces for ZARA...

This garment factory commits many violations of labor laws, including cutoffs of 5000 MMK for not working overtime on Sundays, deducting 35000 MMK from the Attendance Bonus if a worker is late to work for more than 2 hours in a month, and forcing workers to go home when the factory is flooded and forcing them to work the next day instead.

Shortly after the incident, a police sergeant entered the factory and talked in the room, according to the workers. There are more than 500 workers at the factory, and the day laborers were dismissed again due to today's incident.
