The confrontation between the Huaripampa Peasant Community and Compañía Minera Antamina has reached a critical point in the district of San Marcos, Huari province, in the Áncash region. In the short term, the main parties affected are contractor companies that provide services to Antamina. The dispute centers on 184 hectares that the community claims are ancestral property and were allegedly affected by Antamina’s operations. “They have destroyed the little we had on our lands—not only our shelters, but also our belongings,” said one representative of Huaripampa...
Antamina maintains that the accusations lack legal basis. In an official statement, the company asserted that it “has all the legal arguments proving ownership of the land where it operates” and recalled that land purchase agreements were signed with the community in 1998 and remain in force to this day...
The conflict, which has dragged on for months, has escalated in recent days with road blockades and clashes between community members and security forces...

The Huaripampa community insists that its lands have been violated and is demanding financial compensation, while Antamina defends the validity of the contracts signed in 1998 and argues that there is no legal basis for the accusations.
