Russia: Izhevsk Automobile Plant workers who complained to President about factory downtime offered to resign with five salaries

[Translation prepared by Business & HUman Rights Resource Centre]

Workers who wrote a letter to Putin in Izhevsk were offered to quit with five salaries, 3 August 2022

AvtoVAZ offered the employees of the car factory in Izhevsk, where Lada Vesta cars were produced before the invasion of Ukraine, to voluntarily resign with the payment of several salaries. Previously, the workers wrote a letter to President Vladimir Putin, drawing attention to the idling conveyor...

AvtoVAZ, which owns a plant in Izhevsk, will offer permanent jobs at other enterprises in the city and the region with 5-7 average wages or 12 minimum wages (about 183,000 rubles). A one-time payment of 7 average salaries will be offered to employees of pre-retirement age at the time of early retirement.

The company claims that mass layoffs are not planned. The plant is supposed to organize import substitution of foreign parts, "open an industrial park" and "implement a project to produce a new car," Volga News reports.
