"Repeated fatal accidents at POSCO E&C: labour ministry to inspect head office and construction sites", 12 June 2026

A fatal accident in which a subcontracted worker in his thirties fell to his death at a construction site overseen by POSCO E&C has prompted the Ministry of Employment and Labour to launch a planned inspection targeting the company's head office and construction sites nationwide.

At the construction site in question, one person died in 2024 and two in 2025; on the 9th, a subcontracted worker in his thirties fell through an opening whilst carrying out opening-expansion work and died. The Ministry of Labour has issued a work-stoppage order and begun investigating the cause of the accident. It is also investigating potential violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Act on the Punishment of Serious Accidents (Serious Accidents Punishment Act).

(…) After returning from abroad, Minister of Labour Kim Yeong-hun plans to summon the chief executives of POSCO Group affiliates where fatal accidents have occurred and examine the state of their safety management.

In a separate interview with Yonhap News Agency, POSCO E&C stated: "We offer our deepest apologies." (…) "Until safety is fully secured, we will take every possible measure, including work stoppages." (…) "We will spare no support for the bereaved families and, so that such an incident never occurs again, all our employees will fulfil their responsibilities to the end."
