In October 2022, a report by Global Witness and the Cybersecurity for Democracy (C4D) revealed that Facebook and TikTok failed to block paid ads spreading misinformation about voting in the upcoming 2022 midterm elections in the United States. According to the report, YouTube was the only platform that succeeded in blocking the misinformation-spreading ads submitted as part of the experiment.

In response to the report, Facebook and TikTok provided responses that are included in the report and in the Mashable article.
