MARA was formed through an international merger of top-tier companies and controls Minera Agua Rica LLC Sucursal Argentina and Minera Alumbrera Limited. In December 2020, shareholders finalized legal processes to integrate the Agua Rica deposit with Minera Alumbrera’s infrastructure, creating the MARA Integrated Project.
The MARA project was formed in December 2020 as a joint venture between Glencore, Yamana Gold, and Newmont, with Glencore increasing its stake to 43.75% in 2022 and Pan American acquiring Yamana Gold's stake in 2023. In April 2023, Glencore adquired the full ownership of the project.
