In FY2023 (7th), the 'Corporate Ethical Report Card' project re-examined apparel companies that were the subject of the first survey, to see what differences could be seen from five years ago, and to understand the status of the industry initiatives.

The survey was conducted on the top five companies in terms of sales five years ago, but this time the ten largest companies were assessed, and the results were published. The survey covered seven areas in detail: sustainability structure, consumer protection and support, human rights and labour, social contribution, peace and non-violence, animal welfare and the environment.

Since the 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse (in which more than 1,100 workers manufacturing fast-fashion brand products in Europe and the US died), 'ethical fashion' has become mainstream. Major Japanese companies are required to demonstrate their concern for the environment, human rights, animal welfare, etc.
