Cambodia: Phnom Penh Municipal Court charges a journalist over alleged incitement following his Facebook post criticising govt's response to COVID-19

Phnom Penh Municipal Court ... charged and detained a journalist and publisher over alleged incitement in the capital.

Investigating Judge Keth Socheath identified the accused as 41-year-old Cheat Khmer Newspaper publisher Ros Sokhet, living in Phnom Penh’s Kamboul district.

He is charged with “incitement to commit a felony” under Articles 494 and 495 of the Criminal Code...

Major Nuon Sopheak, police officer with Municipal Anti-Cyber Crimes Department in Phnom Penh, told ... that ..., Sokhet wrote a Facebook post criticising government policy regarding the spread of COVID-19 in the Kingdom.

... “His Facebook post has seriously threatened the honour of the leaders of government and also aims to incite discord between the public and authorities,” he said.

Sokhet was arrested ... by the Municipal Anti-Cyber Crimes Department in Phnom Penh.

He was transferred to the Municipal Anti-Cyber Crimes Department and was later brought to the municipal court for questioning...
