Canada: CAD2.1 million settlement approved by Quebec court in class action over alleged exploitation of migrants working for catering co. Newrest

In October 2023, it was reported that migrant workers allegedly were recruited to Canada under false promises and exploited by an international aviation catering company, Newrest, and a Quebec labour supplier, Trésor.

The workers were allegedly promised work permits that did not materialize, and were subjected to threats of deportation, among other abuses.

A class action lawsuit was filed. In February 2026, it was reported that the Superior Court of Quebec approved a CAD2.1 million settlement.
